In December 2024, Paguyuban Tani Lestari, alongside Business Watch Indonesia and Solidaridad, hosted an empowering workshop aimed at nurturing the green tea market and uplifting the smallholders' tea factory network. More than 50 dedicated tea farmers, united under Paguyuban Tani Lestari from 14 districts, came together at the Posters Hotel in Bandung to forge strategies that would enhance their bargaining power within the supply chain.
Through this transformative gathering, the members recognized the vital necessity of joint marketing to amplify the market share of their green tea. Historically, the trade dynamics between farmers and traders have been imbalanced, with farmers facing limited bargaining power—primarily due to the constrained production capacity of smallholders’ tea factories, which ranges from only 30 – 75 tons per month, while average company demands exceed 100 tons per month.
This meeting served as a catalyst for building collective awareness among farmers about the pressing need for consolidation and collaborative marketing efforts. This ambitious strategy aims to empower farmers, diversify distribution channels, and enhance the absorption of green tea, ultimately leading to increased incomes for farmers and a renewed passion for nurturing their tea plantations.

As part of this inspiring journey, members of Paguyuban Tani Lestari took the pivotal first steps in assessing the production capacity across each tea-producing region. The collective spirit ignited in this meeting is destined to ripple through all tea farmers, fostering a strong sense of community and purpose.
